SAN ANTOINIO (KTSA News) — Some San Antonio residents are trying to figure out what is happening downtown.

It is being reported that half of the city’s councilmembers want a special meeting to propose censuring Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones.

According to KSAT-12, councilmembers Phyllis Viagran, Teri Castillo, Marina Alderete Gavito, Misty Spears and Ivalis Meza Gonzalez, who just got probation for a DWI arrest, are calling for the action. It comes after a confrontation between Sukh Kaur and Jones on February 5, 2026.

An investigation is currently underway, and a special meeting will take place at the conclusion of that probe, which should last two weeks. The five councilmembers are complaining about so-called unprofessional behavior on the part of Jones, but unclear is exactly what that entails. It was suggested that Ortiz Jones was somehow lacking respect.

Jones has never shied away from the fact there have been disagreements with some city councilmembers since her tenure began in June 2025. Regardless of the outcome, Jones expresses an interest is continuing to work alongside the councilmembers.
