EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Two students from the El Paso Independent School District have advanced to the Texas State Spanish Spelling Bee after excelling at the 2026 Education Service Center Region 19 Regional Spanish Spelling Bee on Saturday.
Shaheli de Silva from Young Women’s STEAM Research and Preparatory Academy and Ferran Martinez Caloca from Wiggs Middle School earned their spots at the state level.
The regional event challenged participants with Spanish spelling, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
The state competition, celebrating bilingualism and academic excellence, is set for June 4 at the Starlight Event Center in El Paso.
