Arlington schools have been asked to refrain from outdoor activities after Atmos Energy experienced a major gas leak Tuesday morning, district officials said in a statement to parents.

“Arlington Fire is aware of this situation, and we are sharing this information with you as a precautionary measure,” the statement said.

Officials said the smell of gas is noticeable across multiple locations throughout the city. Campuses have been asked to remain inside until an all-clear is given by Arlington fire and Atmos, according to the statement.

“Arlington ISD Facility Services is making adjustments to our air intake systems to minimize the smell from encroaching into our buildings,” the statement said.
