AUSTIN, Texas — A 20-year-old motorcyclist died Sunday night after fleeing from Texas state troopers and crashing in northeast Austin, authorities said.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers attempted to stop the motorcycle for speeding near Parmer Lane and Old Highway 20 at approximately 8:11 p.m., according to a DPS spokesman.

The motorcycle fled, and troopers terminated the pursuit shortly after when they lost visual contact with the rider.

About five minutes later, troopers located the crashed motorcycle. The rider was found nearby, and troopers performed life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at 9 p.m.

The Manor Police Department and Austin Police Department responded to assist at the scene. Austin police are investigating.
