AUSTIN, Texas — A man was killed Sunday in a crash that followed a chase involving Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers in Travis County. Â
The Austin Police Department (APD) said a DPS trooper began chasing a motorcycle heading east on U.S. 290. The trooper later lost sight of the motorcyclist, and the pursuit ended. Â
Authorities said the same motorcycle was later found crashed at East Parmer Lane and Old Highway 20. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Javan O. Jackson, was pronounced dead at the scene. Â
The incident marks Austin’s ninth fatal traffic crash of 2026, resulting in nine deaths. On the date of the crash in 2025, there had been five fatal crashes resulting in five deaths.Â
