Lunar New Year at Children’s Museum Houston
Enjoy two days of Lunar New Year festivities at the Children’s Museum in Houston. On Feb. 14, entertainment will begin at 11 a.m. and include a traditional lion dance from Soaring Phoenix Lion Dance; a Diabolo, Chinese yo-yo, performance; and a contemporary Chinese dance show by J&H Dance School. On Feb. 15 at noon, a traditional Chinese dance will take place. On both days, attendees will have the opportunity to make crafts, such as horse hand puppets and paper lanterns, beginning when the museum opens.

To kick off The Year of the Fire Horse, The Woodlands Children’s Museum is hosting a Lunar New Year event. The celebration will feature dance performances from Houston Lion Kings. Parades will take place at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Art projects will also be available for attendees to learn about Asian culture. On Feb. 14, from 2-3 p.m., attendees can enjoy crafts and giveaways based on Asian culture and Lunar New Year traditions. The Phap Luan Buddhist Culture Center will perform a Lion Dance from 3-4 p.m. at these events, which are hosted by Houston Premium Outlets.
Lunar New Year festivities at the Galleria
To be held across four days, Lunar New Year celebrations, hosted by Asia Society Texas and the Galleria, will include multiple performances. The Houston Shaolin Kung Fu Academy Lion Dancing will perform each day of the celebrations. Meanwhile, the Huaxing Arts Group and SalaRu Sri Lankan Cultural Academy will put on shows Feb. 15. Han Narea and the Filipino Young Professionals will debut Feb. 21. Finally, Feb. 22, Sanggar Tari Citra Indonesia and Dance of Asian America will close out the events with multiple performances. Feb. 14 events will be held at the mall’s Luxury Wing while the other days will have festivities in the Nordstrom Wing.

The River Oaks District will host multiple days of events in honor of the Lunar New Year. On Feb. 17, Lee’s Golden Dragon group will give a Platform Dragon Dance performance in the park next to Bari Ristorante. On Feb. 21, attendees can enjoy free boba drinks, cocktails at Azumi Japanese Steaks & Sushi, and an origami station. At 3 p.m., a Jong/High Pole performance will be held. The events are dependent on weather conditions.

Attendees can watch an interactive storybook opera and make Lunar New Year crafts at the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center. Grand Houston Opera will be performing, and children can also make paper lanterns, horse puppets and full moon silhouettes.
