The scene of the wreck (KPRC 2)
A 5-year-old girl was killed in a crash involving two SUVs in south Houston on Tuesday, authorities said.
The collision happened at the intersection of Dixie Drive and Almeda Road. It was first reported around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Investigators at the scene said a white SUV was making a left-hand turn from Dixie onto Almeda when it collided with a black SUV traveling southbound on Almeda.
The child was inside the black SUV at the time of the crash, according to officials. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities urged caution for anyone in the area due to the sensitive nature of the scene.
Officials said it is not yet clear whether speed was a factor in the crash. Investigators also said there were no initial signs indicating impairment from the drivers involved.
The crash remains under investigation. No additional details were immediately released.
