LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Dry and seasonably mild weather highlight our forecast from tonight through Thursday night. It is expected to bring rain, perhaps a few thunderstorms, and significantly different weather for Valentine’s Day.

The northeasterly breeze will be light, generally less than 10 mph.

Mild Day

I expect a mix of sun and clouds – partly cloudy – Wednesday. After a cold start, temperatures will peak on the cool side, in the low to mid-60s.

With a light wind, easterly then southerly, less than 10 mph, the afternoon will be mild for the time of year.

Warm Up

A significant warm up occurs Thursday. The afternoon will bring highs in the 70s. Once again, that is about 20 degrees above average for the season. High clouds will limit the sunshine a bit and a southwest breeze will ramp up to around 10 to 15 mph.

Rain and Possibly Thunderstorms

Friday is when the weather changes significantly. Expect mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of showers in the morning, with rain showers likely in the afternoon. There may be the rumble of thunder, too. At this time, we don’t expect any severe weather. Any thunderstorm activity, however, may be accompanied by enhanced rainfall.

It will be a cool day with highs in the 60s. Winds are anticipated to be light.

Plan for wet conditions, especially in the afternoon and evening. If you’re planning outdoor activities, be prepared to move indoors or reschedule.

Friday night will be the wettest period with steady rain and a slight chance of thunderstorms. This is when the most meaningful rainfall is expected.

Valentine’s Day

Saturday will be rather raw with showers likely into the afternoon, a grey overcast, a brisk northerly wind, and temperatures that may not breach 60 degrees.

Saturday evening weather will bring improving conditions with a slight chance of rain showers lingering into the evening. As skies clear out overnight it will get cold.

Sunshine and Warmth

Sunday will be a nice finish to the weekend with sunny skies and highs in the upper 60s. Monday, Presidents’ Day, will be mostly sunny with a seasonably warm afternoon — a pleasant time to get outside after the wet weekend.

On This Date

On this date, Lubbock’s average low is 30° and the average high is 59°. The record low and high for February 10 are 1° in 1929 and 88° in 2017, respectively.
