Spooky season has arrived at Southtown bar and antique shop La Segunda.

Unexplained events have plagued the business since it acquired a vintage comb of unknown origin that likely dates back to the early 20th century, owner Eduardo Hernandez told the Current.

A video camera at La Segunda, 1302 S. St. Mary’s St., captured the moment a vendor placed the comb on a shelf. The item, sheathed in a protective velvet case, was nestled behind a corner of the cabinet’s frame to hide it from view, as it was already sold.

“He stashed it in a manner where it was kind of tucked away, you couldn’t see it from the front,” Hernandez said.

And here’s where the creepy part comes in: moments later, camera footage showed the comb suddenly flying off the shelf toward customers.

“We tried to debunk it, and we couldn’t figure out how it happened,” Hernandez said. “But it kind of jumped out in a manner where it looked like it had some force behind it, and didn’t just drop out because of gravity or something.”

This incident happened after multiple customers reported experiencing strange energy in the boutique, Hernandez told the Current, particularly on its second level.

One customer reported that she suddenly felt faint as she visited the upper floor, which led her to believe someone had died in the century-old former home by falling down its stairs.

Hernandez said he hasn’t witnessed any ghostly happenings in person, but he believes in such things wholeheartedly.

“I’ve heard numerous stories and customers that are sensitive to that paranormal kind of thing that they feel energies, and they’re good and bad — mostly good,” he said. “And you know I see little orbs and stuff in my surveillance monitors when I’m there at the shop at night.”
