If you submitted your application by the regular deadline — that’s Dec.1 for freshman admission and all materials in by Dec.10 — you’ve been in the final review pool for weeks.
UT Austin’s admissions office announced in an email to applicant to regular and deferred early action applicants, Friday, Feb. 13 is the day that many Longhorn hopefuls will finally log into the MyStatus portal and see one of the biggest words of their young academic lives: “Admit.” Or, for some, “Deny” or “Waitlist.”
Getting into UT isn’t easy. The flagship campus in Austin admits roughly around 27–30 % of applicants overall, though that number varies significantly between Texas residents and out-of-state applicants.
As the clock ticks toward decision day, here’s what to know:
Whether it’s celebration or reflection, Friday the 13th is going to be a big day for Longhorn applicants everywhere.
Early action decisions began rolling out around Jan. 15, UT’s target date to release those decisions, though many applicants were deferred and told they would hear back later.
Early action at UT is nonbinding, meaning students are not required to enroll if admitted. Applicants who were not accepted outright in January were often deferred into the regular decision pool, where their applications received additional review alongside students who applied by the December regular deadline.
Those deferred early action applicants are now part of the group awaiting decisions this week.
