You might need umbrella this Valentine’s Day in Austin, as scattered showers and mild temperatures move in. Plan for a damp but cozy evening across Central Texas.
AUSTIN, Texas — Love is in the air this week, but in Central Texas, that love might come with a side of precipitation.
If you were planning a sweeping, cinematic picnic at Zilker Park or a rooftop toast under the stars, Mother Nature might be asking for a rain check. As we head into Valentine’s Day, the KVUE Daybreak team is tracking a shift in the atmosphere that could put a damper on your outdoor activities this Saturday.

The latest seven-day forecast indicates a transition from the clear skies we have enjoyed recently to a more unsettled pattern. By Saturday, we’re looking at a 60% rain chance and scattered thunderstorms. While a 60% chance sounds like a heartbreak, it really means that more than half our viewing area is likely to see measurable rain at some point during the day. It’s not necessarily a total washout for your evening plans, but you should definitely have a plan B that involves a sturdy roof and perhaps some indoor lighting.

Temperatures will remain relatively warm, hovering in the mid-70s during the day and dipping into the 50s as the sun sets. For those heading out for a Valentine’s date night, the wet roads will be the biggest mood killer. Commuters should allow extra time to reach their dinner reservations, as Austin traffic and rain go together like oil and water.

The Weather Prediction Center’s seven-day rainfall outlook suggests that while we aren’t expecting a large flood, the consistent moisture will keep things soggy this weekend. If you’re determined to stay outdoors, look for the breaks in the clouds during the afternoon hours, but keep the KVUE app handy to track storms in real time. Whether you’re spending the day with a significant other, friends, or a very spoiled pet, stay dry and stay safe.
