Allen’s Ford Park renovation project will now include an additional playground.

Texas Parks and Wildlife awarded a $750,000 grant to the Allen Parks and Recreation Department, according to a Jan. 30 news release. The city plans to use this money to add a playground to the north section of Ford Park, Director of Parks and Recreation Kate Meacham said.

Voters approved $17 million in bond funding to improve Ford Park in 2023. The 50-acre park is one of Allen’s oldest and is currently split into four segments, Meacham said.

“With this project, we’re going to be trying to bring all four components together in one unified park,” Meacham said.

“It’ll kind of become a mini neighborhood park within the larger community park,” Meacham said.

What’s next

Construction is expected to begin early this fall, and city staff estimate the park will be closed for the majority of 2027, Meacham said.
