A man is dead and a woman is in stable condition after a house fire Tuesday night, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.

At about 8:52 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were called to a fire at a home on the 3100 block of Modella Avenue in Northwest Dallas.

When firefighters arrived at the one-story home, they reported heavy fire coming from the front of the house and two people trapped inside.

Firefighters rescued a woman and a man from inside the home and transported them to a local hospital after smoke exposure.

The woman was reported to be in stable condition. The man was reported to be in critical condition and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Family members told NBC 5 the man who died in the fire was 77 years old.

No other injuries were reported, and the fire was extinguished at approximately 9:20 p.m.

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
