A hit-and-run in northwest Harris County claimed 19-year-old Michael Shannon’s life, leaving his loved ones seeking justice. The driver remains unidentified.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A 19-year-old man is dead and another is recovering after a hit-and-run crash in northwest Harris County.

The crash happened on Jones Road near Grant Road on Super Bowl Sunday.

Investigators believe a silver Toyota RAV4 struck the two teens as they were walking along the road. The area does not have a crosswalk or sidewalk.

Michael Shannon, 19, was finishing high school, according to his family. They say his life — and his dreams — were cut short that night.

Family members said Shannon and a friend had walked to a nearby Kroger during the Super Bowl halftime show to get snacks.

“Let’s go walk to Kroger, we can get chips or make nachos during the halftime show,” Amber Rasco recalled.

Deputies say the SUV hit the teens and kept going. The second teen survived and is recovering in the hospital.

Rasco said the driver’s decision to leave the scene has added to the family’s heartbreak.

“It’s not like you ran over some trash. He was a person. He was a human. He had people that loved him — a lot of friends,” she said.

Shannon had been living in a foster group home and spent much of his life in and out of foster care, his family said. Despite those challenges, they describe him as determined and resilient.

“I think his story is a story of resilience. Even going through foster homes, he still persevered,” Rasco said.

Now, his loved ones are grieving and asking anyone with information to come forward.

“I hope that if anyone knows anything, they can come forward. He was really loved. Our family would like justice for him,” Rasco said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers. Tips can be made anonymously.
