As Celtic punk pioneers with roots in Boston’s working-class neighborhoods, Dropkick Murphys have spent nearly three decades turning raucous energy and Irish-inflected punk into a live-show institution. Formed in 1996 in Quincy, Massachusetts, the band forged its identity blending punk ferocity with traditional Irish instrumentation — from bagpipes to mandolins — a sound that became the group’s hallmark early on.

The band’s breakthrough came with the 2005 album The Warrior’s Code, anchored by the explosive single “I’m Shipping Up to Boston.” The track leapt from punk favorite to cultural touchstone after it was used in Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning 2006 film The Departed, introducing the Murphys to a global audience far beyond the underground scene.

Over the years, the band has balanced high-octane shows with an ethos rooted in solidarity and working-class pride. Its 2025 album For The People was widely praised, blending the Murphys’ signature gritty Celtic punk with heartfelt songwriting, social commentary and high-energy anthems.

As the “For the People … In the Pit” tour hits Dallas, expect communal sing-alongs aplenty as the band belts out classics like “Rose Tattoo” and “The Boys Are Back.”
