GALVESTON, Texas — The Lone Star State is backing a massive shipbuilding investment along the Texas Gulf Coast, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Feb. 11.
Davie Defense Inc., an international shipbuilder with operations in Canada and Helsinki, plans to build Arctic icebreakers in Galveston and Port Arthur, requiring more than $730 million in capital investment and creating 2,400 new jobs.
Abbott said in a Feb. 11 news release that Davie Defense will receive a grant of about $21.8 million from the Texas Enterprise Fund to support the investment.
“With the best business climate in the nation, Texas is a magnet for complex, critical manufacturing,” Abbott said.
