FABENS, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 23-year-old Fabens woman was killed after an ATV crash Saturday evening on Landfill Road, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded at about 6:11 p.m. to a motor vehicle collision involving serious injuries in the 200 block of Landfill Road in Fabens.
Investigators said a blue Yamaha ATV was driving northbound with two occupants when the driver failed to negotiate a curve.
The ATV went onto an unimproved shoulder and struck an electrical pole.
Both the driver and passenger were ejected and taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation, officials said.
One of the occupants later died.
The sheriff’s office identified the person who died as Cassandra Silva, a 23-year-old Fabens resident.
“This tragic incident serves as a reminder that ATVs are not designed or permitted for use on public roadways,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “Operating these vehicles on paved roads significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death. We strongly urge riders to use ATVs only in appropriate areas and to always wear proper protective equipment, including helmets and safety gear.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
