A man was shot and killed in a Fort Worth motel parking lot late Tuesday night following a disturbance between two men.

The shooting occurred around 11:15 p.m. at a motel in the 5800 block of East Lancaster Avenue, according to Fort Worth police.

Officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds when they arrived at the scene. He was pronounced dead in the parking lot.

The killing adds to Fort Worth’s homicide count in what has been a violent start to the year. While police say this appears to be an isolated incident, the brazen nature of the shooting in a public space raises concerns about safety in the area.

Homicide detectives believe an argument erupted between two men in the parking lot. During the confrontation, one man opened fire, striking the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene.

No arrests have been reported as of publication. Police have not disclosed whether the men knew each other or what sparked the deadly encounter.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released the victim’s identity. Investigators said they believe there is no ongoing threat to the public, suggesting the shooting was targeted rather than random.

The investigation remains active as detectives work to identify and locate the shooter.
