EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Drivers in the El Paso area are being warned about a fake memo circulating online and through some media outlets that falsely claims temporary 10-day road closures are planned.

The Texas Department of Public Safety stated that the memo is not legitimate and emphasized that it is not closing major highways or any roads in or out of the area over the next 10 days.

Officials said it is unclear where the memo originated and that no additional information is currently available.

DPS reminded the public that official communications will be issued by the DPS Media and Communications Office, designated public information officers, and on official DPS social media channels.
