The body was reported around 6:45 a.m. on North Loop 1604 East at Redland Road.

SAN ANTONIO — The body of an older man was found early Thursday morning under a bridge on the city’s northeast side, and San Antonio police are working to determine what led to his death.

Officers were called around 6:46 a.m. to the 2400 block of North Loop 1604 East, near the U.S. 281 bridge by Redland Road, after a man was reported unresponsive near the bridge.

San Antonio Fire Department crews responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

SAPD Sgt. Chris Winer said the man was discovered by a construction worker in the area, but investigators have determined the victim was not connected to the nearby construction site.

Police described the man as a Hispanic male believed to be between 55 and 65 years old. His identity has not been confirmed, and officials said it remains unclear how long he may have been in the area.

The case is being investigated as an apparent sudden death. No additional details have been released.

This remains a developing story.
