ARLINGTON, Texas – For the first time since its opening match of the spring, UT Arlington women’s tennis is back in action at home. The Mavericks take on SMU at noon Friday and Louisiana Tech at 10 a.m. Sunday. Both matches will take place at the UTA Tennis Center.

UTA (2-3) is coming off its first two dual match victories this spring on Saturday. The Mavericks topped UT Dallas 4-1 and Lubbock Christian 4-2 in an effort spearheaded by the team’s underclassmen.

Sophomore Vanja Cado and the freshman trio of Sofia Selle, Natalia Gonzalez and Tasnime Ahamout each won both of their singles matches in the doubleheader and split their doubles matches.

Cado won her Court 1 match against UTD’s Katia Robinson in straight sets before toppling Lubbock Christian’s AnaMaria Zoric on Court 2. Selle competed on Court 3 in both of her singles matches and won each in straight sets. Selle and Cado went 1-1 in the doubleheader in doubles play.

Gonzalez and Ahamout competed on Court 5 and Court 6 respectively and dominated in singles play. The freshmen pair won both of their singles bouts without either of their opponents winning more than three games in a set. Gonzalez and Ahamout went 1-1 as a duo.

All-time, UTA is 5-16 against SMU. The Mustangs have won the last eight matches in the series. The Mavericks are an even 2-2 against Louisiana Tech and haven’t played the Bulldogs since 2014.

Leading the way for the Mustangs is Sophie Llewellyn. The sophomore is the No. 70 ranked singles player in the nation and is 4-2 in dual matches this spring. SMU also features the No. 44 ranked doubles team in Caroline McGinley and Ellie Mireles. The Mustangs have won every team doubles point in dual matches this spring.
