Seven months after a deadly drive-by shooting outside a Houston nightclub left two dead and 15 injured, a suspect has been charged with capital murder.
HOUSTON — Friends and family of a Houston barber killed in a drive-by shooting last summer say they are hopeful for justice after a suspect was charged this week.
Paul “Junebug” Stevenson, 48, was killed last July during a shooting outside a club he ran on Dixie Drive. Another person also died in the incident, while 15 others were injured.
Curvis Lenton, 24, was charged with capital murder and appeared in court Thursday. Prosecutors say Lenton opened fire into a crowd from inside a car. There are at least three other co-defendants in the case, according to prosecutors.
James Briscoe, Stevenson’s lifelong friend, said the victim’s family stayed persistent in seeking answers.
“I have a lot of faith in our justice system, in our police department here in Houston, and all of the people that have been involved. Of course, his widow called several times out of the week to make sure that the police department was in fact staying on top of the case,” Briscoe said.
Lenton’s bond was set at $3 million. Specific charges for the remaining three suspects are unclear.
