Texas softball makes its home debut for the 2026 season Thursday against Abilene Christian in the first of six games this weekend at the Bevo Classic at McCombs Field in Austin.

The No. 2 Longhorns (4-1), the reigning national champions, dropped a spot in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll after falling to Nebraska at last weekend’s UTSA Invitational. But they still showed off their potent offense by scored 46 runs while hitting .361 as a team in San Antonio.

Catcher Reese Atwood, the centerpiece of the loaded lineup, will try and break a 13-year-old record for most career home runs by a Longhorn this weekend. Now a senior, Atwood tied the program’s all-time mark of 58 held by Taylor Hoagland (2010-13) in Sunday’s 10-0 win over UTSA. Atwood already holds the program’s all-time RBI record at 232 and counting, and she’s also the NCAA’s active career leader in both home runs and RBIs.
