Lubbock Adult Activity Center offers community for seniors 50 and older

  • February 13, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – For many older adults in Lubbock, the Lubbock Adult Activity Center is more than just a place to spend the day. It’s a place to belong.

Monday through Friday, dozens of senior citizens gather at the Lubbock Adult Activity Center. Lunch is served, and people aged 50 and older can enjoy a variety of games and activities.

Belinda Rodriguez, who comes with her husband Monico, said they have found a secondary family at the center.

“I just love it because you get to meet a lot of people and they become your family,” Belinda said. “So there’s times when we got some really close friends we do outside of the senior citizen, and when someone hurts, we are all hurting, we are a part of a family.”

Building friendships through activities

Georgia Miller has been attending the adult activity center for two years. She said there are many things to do at the center and many new friendships waiting to be had.

“This here this one is Melissa and she’s been here as long as I have, this is Peggy, she has been here as long as I have, they are just not talkers, but I enjoy them,” Miller said. “We all play cards together, we all like the volleyball, it gets kind of wild sometimes, but other than that there is all kinds of things to do.”

Don’t hesitate to reach out

Katy Estrada, a senior center supervisor, said people should not hesitate to come to any of the four locations because community is for anyone at any age.

“Whenever they do come in and start to open up and make friends, it’s just amazing that we are able to provide a space, a safe space for them to come in and do that,” Estrada said. “So it’s just a great opportunity for a lot of people and they just don’t know about all the things we do here, so we would love for them to come down here, come to any of our four senior centers.”

Bring your ‘A’ game

Larry Welsh said if you decide to come to any of the centers, be prepared for all of the games. He said just because you’re a bit older doesn’t mean you don’t like to win.

“Yeah pretty competitive, yes real competitive, better bring your A game if you play here,” Welsh said.
