The College of Liberal Arts is offering an Aviation Pathway expected to begin in March to meet the growing demand for aviation professionals.

The program will take advantage of the Metroplex’s aviation industry, using its connections to give students an interdisciplinary degree, experience and skills in airline and airport management, according to a College of Liberal Arts aviation flyer.

Marvin Diaz, College of Liberal Arts associate professor of practice and director of the Aviation program, has worked in the aviation industry for over 20 years and will be leading the program.

“The Aviation program is to raise awareness in the mind of the student to understand what is the business, all the regulations, all the economics, all the safety requirements and really what makes it so exciting,” Diaz said.

The program offers a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences for professionals in the industry with a desire to further their education, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies for full-time students pursuing a four-year degree who are interested in aviation.

Diaz said the program will partner with major airlines such as American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Envoy Air to tailor courses as needed.

“That is kind of the people that are giving us feedback on what courses we should offer, so we really are building our curriculum based on industry feedback,” Diaz said.
