Angel Rodriguez, 23, is accused of threatening to shoot up a bar in northwest Austin on Feb. 8.

AUSTIN, Texas — A man is facing two felony charges following an incident that occurred in North Austin earlier this month.

According to court documents obtained by KVUE, officers responded to a call at Dorzon International Lounge/D2.0 Bar just after 4 a.m. on Feb. 8. The caller told police that a man had been involved in an altercation with a security guard and was threatening to shoot up the business.

Police arrived and observed a man, identified as 23-year-old Angel Rodriguez, walking toward a vehicle with two security guards following behind him. Police say that Rodriguez was being verbally abusive and yelling profanities toward the guards.

Rodriguez was then detained by police. One of the security guards told officers that Rodriguez had caused a disturbance inside the business and was subsequently escorted out. During this time, the security guard said that he was being verbally aggressive and using profanity toward the guards.

The security guard told police that Rodriguez’s behavior escalated to the point that security guard told him to go home. The security guard then turned around to walk back inside the business, when Rodriguez allegedly punched him in the face from behind.

The security guard then claimed that Rodriguez made repeated threats that he was going to “shoot up the place.” Rodriguez reportedly yelled the threats loudly in a crowded parking lot where more than 100 people were present, and one of the security guards claimed that Rodriguez pointed at his waistband to imply that he was armed with a gun.

The guards claimed that multiple bar patrons approached them, fearing that Rodriguez was serious about shooting up the business. One of the security guards claimed that Rodriguez continued walking between vehicles as if he was attempting to go to a vehicle to retrieve a firearm, which prompted them to follow him for safety reasons.

Shots had also been fired earlier in the night, per one of the guards, and a live ammunition round was recovered by police at the scene.

Rodriguez faces charges of terroristic threat and assault on a security officer, both of which are third-degree felonies.
