Three Lubbock Police officers retire after years of service

  • February 13, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Three Lubbock Police officers are saying goodbye to the badge after years of service to the Hub City.

Sergeant James Sullivan, Detective David Paulk and Officer Mike Garcia are all retiring.

Detective Paulk and Officer Garcia are looking forward to civilian life, while Sergeant Sullivan is heading to work for the state.

“The people, working with the people, primarily the officers that I work for and then helping the citizens out as well,” Sullivan said about what he’ll miss most.

Officer Garcia said his most memorable time was “most likely my time spent with the honor guard, the last 25 years that I spent with them, and showing honor and grace from our department.”

Detective Paulk said he’s excited about retirement. “I’m excited about it, can’t wait to get out there as a civilian. I know I’ll be safe because I got my brothers in blue backing me up and protecting the city,” he said.

All three said they’re going to miss working on the force, but they know they have a brotherhood for life.

For their dedicated service, these officers also went home with City of Lubbock street signs with their names on them.
