This is a crime wrap-up from Feb. 4 to 7.

Theft of property

On Feb. 4, a student reported the theft of clothing, UTA Police Capt. Mike McCord said in an email.

Theft of property valued between $750 and $2,500 is a class A misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $4,000, up to one year in jail or both.

The case is still active.

Stalking, unlawful restraint and online impersonation

On Feb. 5, a student reported being harassed and stalked by her ex-boyfriend, McCord said.

Stalking is a third-degree felony punishable by jail time between two and 10 years. Perpetrators may also receive a fine not exceeding $10,000.

Unlawful restraint is a class A misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $4,000, up to one year in jail or both.

Online impersonation is a third-degree felony if the person uses the name or persona of another person to create or send messages on an internet site with the intention to fraud, defraud, intimidate or threaten any person. A third-degree felony is punishable by jail time between two and 10 years, a fine not exceeding $10,000 or both.

Online impersonation is class A misdemeanor if a person sends an electronic communication that references identifying information belonging to any person without consent and with the intent to cause a recipient to believe the other person authorized the communication and the intent to harm or defraud. A class A misdemeanor is punishable by a fine not to exceed $4,000, up to one year in jail or both.

Harassment

On Feb. 6, a student reported harassing contact by her ex-boyfriend, McCord said.

Harassment is a class B misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $2,000, up to 180 days in jail or both.

Burglary of vehicle

On Feb. 6, a student reported the burglary of his vehicle, McCord said.

Burglary of a vehicle is a class A misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $4,000, up to a year in jail or both.

The case is still active.

Sexual assault

On Feb. 7, a student reported his ex-girlfriend had been sexually assaulted, McCord said.

Sexual assault is a second-degree felony punishable by imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice between two and 20 years. Perpetrators may also receive a fine not to exceed $10,000.
