Amazon is opening a new facility, just east of downtown San Antonio.

The Seattle-based tech giant is working on a 4,220-square-foot space at 515 E. Crockett St., according to city permits. The new facility will operate “continuously 24 hours a day and 7 days a week to meet customer needs,” and include an employee break room, refrigerated cases for prepackaged food items and space for shelf-stable items, according to the documents.

“We intend to open a new facility in San Antonio that will support fast customer delivery,” an Amazon spokesperson said. They did not share any further details.

Amazon is spending an estimated $400,000 to outfit the space, which is expected to be completed by April 2026, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The facility is located around the corner from Smoke Skybar, which recently came under fire with the city for operating without a certificate of occupancy.

The space appears to be too small for a sorting facility or processing center, which typically range from 600,000 to over 1 million square feet for standard centers.

In October, Amazon purchased a 560,000-square-foot warehouse at 810 Rosillo Creek Blvd. on the East Side of town with plans for a $61 million renovation. The e-commerce company will use the warehouse for “receiving, storing, shipping, distributing, and preparing products, materials, food, grocery and liquor items,” according to property records. It also will serve as a pick-up and drop-off location for online customers.
