“I apologize for the rudeness displayed by the County Judge.” Commissioner apologizes after Judge’s abrupt departure.
HOUSTON — A dust-up over a door led Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo to abruptly leave Thursday’s commissioners court meeting.
Precinct 4 Commissioner Leslie Briones asked for a second door for her office at the Harris County Administration building in downtown Houston, as an emergency exit for her staff.Â
Judge Hidalgo said that adding the door would cut into her office space, which she says is already so limited that some members of her staff were working out of a conference room.
The judge says her co-workers were going to put their own spin on the spat, so she was leaving.
“So colleagues, if you’d like to put out your spin, go ahead, I’m gonna present the facts, and I’m going to start taking my lunch. Thank you,” Hidalgo said in the meeting.
Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia apologized after Hidalgo left.Â
“I apologize for the rudeness displayed by the county judge, you should not be subject to that,” Garcia said.
The commissioners then passed the motion to give the Precinct 4 office a second door.
