LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Mike Collier is making his third bid for Texas lieutenant governor, this time as an independent candidate challenging incumbent Dan Patrick.
Collier previously ran against Patrick in 2018 and 2022. He has changed party affiliations twice, identifying first as a Republican, then as a Democrat, and now as an independent.
Collier said his shift to independent status was inspired by issues that arise when the state focuses on partisanship rather than people.
His campaign priorities include funding public schools and supporting Texas students, lowering property taxes, and enacting term limits.
The lieutenant governor presides over the state Senate. Seven other candidates are running for the position, including three Democrats and four Republicans. Patrick is seeking reelection.
