There is one segment I always watch, making the short trip to YouTube weekly. I value its insight, fairness, and dedication to the truth: KCBD’s Food For Thought. It has nothing to do with politics, national or worldwide news. It doesn’t include any opinions, only facts, and it doesn’t consider whether someone could be a potential advertiser.

Instead, Christy Hartin relays the publicly available top and low-performing restaurants that had food inspections throughout the week. She does this in a quick, authoritative, and informative way. Some weeks it’s an emotional rollercoaster, as I’ve discovered a place I’ve eaten at recently had egregious (and to me, terrifying) food safety violations. It’s also joyous to hear about a favorite, or even someone you know personally, passing with flying colors.

Why Food Inspections Matter In Lubbock

If you’ve ever experienced severe food poisoning, you already know that food safety is critical. And while some violations may feel petty (like an employee drinking from an open container), some are obviously dangerous practices (like storing food at dangerous, bacteria-growing temperatures). Food For Thought does an excellent job of communicating which violations are the most serious.

As consumers, we have the right to protect our health from negligence, ignorance, and incompetence. And while any place can have a “bad day,” Food For Thought is an excellent way to hold restaurants to a standard of excellence, which they are all able to achieve if they put forth the effort.
