AUSTIN, Texas — The ACU softball team kicked off the 2025 Bevo Classic with an 11-0 loss to No. 2 Texas on Thursday at Red and Charline McCombs Field.
The Wildcats used five freshmen in the starting lineup, and trailed 4-0 after the first inning.
In the second inning, the Wildcats had a chance with Jadyn Dawson’s single and Savannah Crocker being hit by a pitch, putting two runners on base. However, the inning ended without any runs as Kyana Lipardo struck out swinging. Meanwhile, Texas was unable to extend its lead, leaving a runner stranded after a walk and a flyout. But the Longhorns did add a couple home runs in subsequent innings from Hannah Wells and Reese Atwood.
Leah Meyer pitched 1 inning, allowing 4 earned runs on 3 hits, including a home run and a double, while striking out 2 and walking 2 in her appearance. Makayla Valle entered in relief and pitched 3 innings, giving up 6 earned runs on 4 hits, with 3 walks and no strikeouts. Valle’s outing included 2 home runs and 2 doubles, facing 17 batters in total. The combined effort of the pitchers resulted in 10 earned runs allowed across 4 innings.
