BAYTOWN, Texas (KTRK) — Investigators are searching for the person who shot a 19-year-old in front of his home at a mobile home park just north of the Baytown airport on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities said a road crew witnessed the shooting happen around 12:50 p.m. on a road inside the park and called 911.
By the time Chris Morris arrived at the mobile home where his 19-year-old son lives, crime scene tape had already been put up. He soon learned his son had been shot and taken to the hospital by ambulance.
“No details,” said Morris. “They said he was transported by ambulance. I’m very worried.”
The teen lives at home with his 18-year-old brother, mother, and stepfather.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said investigators believe several young people were arguing in the street just before the shooting.
Authorities said they do not yet know what caused the argument between the teenage brothers and the suspect.
Investigators said the suspect fired several shots before fleeing the scene in a vehicle headed north. No arrests have been announced.
Longtime neighbors say the violence is unusual for the area.
“Concern, but it’s also whether it’s just random because really, nothing that I know of has ever happened like that here,” one neighbor said. “We’ve got break-ins and stuff like that, but not like this.”
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
