Houston police are investigating after a man and woman were found dead inside a downtown apartment late Thursday. No suspects are being sought.

HOUSTON — A man and woman were found dead inside a downtown Houston apartment late Thursday after a neighbor reported seeing blood outside the unit, according to the Houston Police Department.

HPD Lt. Ali said the call came in shortly before 10 p.m. at the Houston House apartments on Fannin Street near Leeland Street. The neighbor told dispatchers they noticed a pool of blood coming from beneath the door of a nearby unit.

Houston police and firefighters forced entry to check for anyone needing medical help. Inside, they found a woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound. A man with gunshot wounds to his upper body was also located and pronounced dead.

“What transpired in this event is unclear at this time,” Lt. Ali said. “We do know that homicide investigators have arrived and they’re looking further into it, trying to put the pieces together.”

Investigators are working to determine the timeline of the shooting, including when the victims were last heard from and whether any disturbances were reported earlier in the evening. Detectives remained at the scene for several hours, interviewing neighbors and gathering evidence from inside the unit.

A firearm was recovered in the apartment, though it is unknown where it was found or who it belonged to. Police are not searching for additional suspects.

Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information to contact Houston Police or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
