AUSTIN, Texas — Police say a driver left the scene after hitting and killing a pedestrian on a scooter in Downtown Austin on Saturday night.

According to the Austin Police Department, the crash happened at the intersection of East 11th Street and San Jacinto Boulevard around 11:34 p.m. on Oct. 18.

The rider of the scooter, later identified as 33-year-old Khaled Saadenddine, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead on Oct. 19.

This is Austin’s 78th fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 82 deaths. On the date of this crash in 2024, 71 fatal crashes resulted in 76 deaths.
