Sachse now has a municipal ordinance governing the placement, number, upkeep and penalties associated with non-compliance of the rules related to donation bins.

The City Council approved a staff recommendation calling for an ordinance at its Oct. 6 meeting. The vote was unanimous.

The bins are used commonly for people to donate clothing and other soft items, which are collected and distributed to residents in need. The former policy allowed property owners to keep as many of the bins on their property as they wished. The ordinance places a limit of one bin per parcel of property.
