Carroll school district trustees on Feb. 2 promoted Carroll High School’s football associate head coach and defensive coordinator Lee Munn to head coach.

Munn joined the staff in 2018, following the selection of Riley Dodge as head coach. In January, Dodge was named tight ends coach and pass game coordinator at SMU. Dodge won 108 games and lost just 10 in eight seasons at Carroll.

“So tonight we turn the page,” said Cameron Bryan, Carroll school board president. “After a thoughtful and deliberate process, this board has voted to name coach Lee Munn as the next head football coach at Carroll ISD.”

The Southlake Carroll Dragons reached UIL Class 6A state championship games in 2024 and 2020 under Dodge. The Dragons won eight football titles between 2011 and 1988.

“Tonight we also get back to work,“ Bryan said. “Coach Munn understands that great programs are built long before that opening day kickoff. They were built in meeting rooms, weight rooms, classrooms, and in the daily decisions to do things the right way.”

Many players attended the board meeting, which paused proceedings for six minutes for pictures, hugs and handshakes.

Before joining Carroll, Munn worked under Todd Dodge, Riley Dodge’s father, at Marble Falls and Austin Westlake high schools. Todd Dodge, currently head coach at Lucas Lovejoy, led Carroll to state titles in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

“To me it’s a no-brainer that the assistant head coach would get the job,” Todd Dodge said. “He’s ready. You’ve prepared him for that.”

Bryan said Munn is the 16th head football coach in program history.

“We look forward to the impact you will make not only on the field, but in the lives of our students and throughout our community,” Bryan added.

Later at the meeting, during the board president’s report, Bryan said the school district — among 1,200 Texas school districts — last week received the highest possible bond rating by Moody’s.

“Only about a dozen have achieved this distinction,” Bryan said.

Superintendent Jeremy Glenn later added that Carroll ISD has been able to provide meaningful pay increases to our school district staff, including a $2,000 stipend bonus this year.

“We also lowered the tax rate, and you continued to pay down district debt, helping us achieve a higher district financial rating,” Glenn added.
