Police have arrested a suspect on suspicion of murder in connection with the fentanyl overdose death in May of a 26-year-old man at a house in north Fort Worth.

The Fort Worth Police Department’s fugitive unit last week arrested Curtis Mukanza, 31, in the death of Cristian Hernandez at the house in the 9200 block of Paluxy Drive.

Hernandez’s death on May 28 was an accident caused by fentanyl toxicity, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

After a few months of investigation, detectives successfully sought an arrest warrant for Mukanza, who was arrested also on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, according to a police department spokesperson.

A state statute makes a person who sells fentanyl to someone who dies from exposure to the synthetic opioid eligible for prosecution on murder.
