AUSTIN, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The governor of Texas has appointed an El Paso business attorney to the Texas Transportation Commission (TTC), the first El Pasoan since 2015.

On Thursday, Governor Greg Abbott announced he had appointed Pat Gordon to the TTC, which looks over the Texas Department of Transportation, and is in charge of making policies regarding the state’s highway system and transportation plans.

Gordon’s term will end Feb. 1, 2027.

After the announcement, Senator Cesar J. Blanco released a statement praising the appointment, saying that he believes Gordon understands the needs of the Borderland and will adress the needs of our area.

Below is Blanco’s full statement:I am incredibly happy to see that Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Pat Gordon to the Texas Transportation Commission (TTC).Transportation decisions made at the state level shape our economy, our ports of entry, our military community, and the daily lives of families who rely on safe and efficient roads. For too long, far West Texas has not had a direct voice on the Commission. Pat’s appointment ensures our region is represented where these critical decisions are made. When we have a seat at the table, our priorities are heard and understood.Pat brings a deep understanding of our border economy and the infrastructure needs that keep goods and people moving. His leadership will matter as we continue working to strengthen trade, reduce congestion, improve safety, and invest in projects that support long-term growth.I look forward to working with Pat and the rest of the TTC to advance transportation investments that reflect the needs of El Paso and West Texas.
