Allen voters will see three City Council candidates on the ballot in the upcoming May election.

The filing period opened Jan. 14 and ended at 5 p.m. Feb. 13. Three candidates have filed to run for Allen City Council positions, according to City Secretary Shelley George.

The specifics

Allen Mayor Baine Brooks is completing his final term in the seat and cannot run for re-election based on the city’s ordinances for term limits.

Two candidates have filed for the mayoral race:

Chris SchulmeisterDave ShaferTommy Baril currently sits in Place 2 and is running for re-election. He is running unopposed.

Dates to know

Filing as a write-in candidate closes at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb.17 and the last day to withdraw as a candidate is Friday, Feb. 20, George said. The drawing for a place on the ballot will be held at 4 p.m Feb. 20.

Election day is Saturday, May 2. Early voting begins Monday, April 20, and ends Tuesday, April 28, per the Texas Secretary of State’s website.
