Five young men were arrested after officers say they fired guns toward a neighborhood, forcing residents to drop to the ground as bullets flew past them.

On Feb. 8, Fort Worth officers responded to a report of a person with a weapon in the 200 block of Yuma Street, near Mississippi Avenue, just before 9:30 p.m.

Surveillance footage reviewed by the department’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) showed multiple individuals with firearms shooting recklessly at the location and in the direction of nearby homes, police said in a press release.

Several 911 callers told dispatchers that “bullets were passing by their heads,” causing them to dive to the ground for safety and leaving them in fear of serious injury or death.

Using video, RTCC staff were able to get a license plate number for a suspect vehicle, and officers conducted what they described as a high-risk traffic stop in the area. During the stop, police say one passenger pulled a handgun from his waistband and shoved it under the front passenger seat in an apparent attempt to conceal it.

Five adult men were detained from the vehicle and arrested.

Officers say they seized multiple firearms and found marijuana inside a backpack.

FWPD said investigators determined that all five men had been shooting in the direction of occupied houses beyond a fence line, which police say showed a reckless disregard for human life. The department shared a video of the investigation on X.
