Texas softball catcher Reese Atwood, who became the program’s all-time leader in home runs Thursday against Abilene Christian, blasted two of the Longhorns’ four home runs in a 14-6 win over Ohio State Friday. Now, the Longhorns return to McCombs Field to face Syracuse in their third game of the Bevo Classic.

The first pitch is scheduled for approximately 8 p.m.

Atwood now has 61 career home runs for the No. 2 Longhorns (6-1), who blew an early 6-0 lead before piling on eight more runs late in the game to secure the mercy-rule win over Ohio State (3-3). Second baseman Leighann Goode went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and her fourth home run of the season, and Kayden Henry scored four runs. Pitcher Teagan Kavan struggled while allowing five runs and seven hits in 2 1/3 innings, but Citlaly Gutierrez came in to earn the win while allowing one run and three hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Syracuse (4-2) opened up the Bevo Classic with a hard-fought 2-1 win earlier Friday over Abilene Christian.
