EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — After five years, the El Paso Independent School District police chief will step down and retire.
On Friday, EPISD confirmed that Chief Manuel Chavira is retiring from the district.
In a statement, EPISD thanked Chavira for his work and dedication towards serving students and school staff.

We are grateful for his years of service and the leadership he has provided. We thank him for his dedication to our students, staff, and community, and we wish him all the best in this next chapter.
EPISD has yet to name Chavira’s replacement.

Chavira was sworn in as EPISD police chief in 2021, after the previous police chief, Victor Araiza, had been placed on administrative leave in 2019.
EPISD did not provide additional information on why Araiza had been placed on administrative leave, saying the district does not comment on personnel matters.
