History

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington’s women’s tennis team competed in its first of two home matches this week, hosting the SMU Mustangs and falling 7-0. The Mavericks are still searching for their first win over SMU since 2016.

SMU (6-1) has been a strong team in doubles play this spring and that continued against UTA (2-4). The Mustangs won their Court 1 and Court 2 matches 6-2 each, moving their record to 7-0 in doubles play in dual matches.

In singles play, the Mavericks battled hard in several matches. Natalia Gonzalez decisively won the first set of her Court 5 tilt against SMU’s Natalie Stasny, but dropped the second set and a marathon 10-5 third set.

Tasnime Ahamout also won the first set of her match against Addison Comiskey on Court 6 before falling in the next two. Diana Kaibara won 10 games across her Court 3 matchup with Caroline McGinley but came up just short in both sets.

UTA will look to rebound against Louisiana Tech at 10 a.m. Sunday at the UTA Tennis Center.
