The first game of the 2026 season for the Texas baseball program is set for Friday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
In their first action in 257 days, the Longhorns will host UC Davis in the opener of a three-game series. Texas is coming off a 44-14 season in which it won a regular-season championship in the Southeastern Conference but was later upset in an NCAA regional. That early exit from the NCAA Tournament extended the Longhorns’ College World Series drought to three seasons.

Under second-year coach Jim Schlossnagle, UT returns several key contributors from last year’s team. Texas also filled in the holes on its roster with 10 transfers and one of the country’s top freshman classes.
The first test for the Longhorns? A UC Davis team that went 27-28 last season. The Aggies are coached by former Texas infielder Tommy Nicholson.

Texas added to its lead in the fifth frame on Aiden Robbins’ RBI double, a bases-loaded walk that was drawn by Temo Becerra and Anthony Pack Jr.’s two-run single. Those RBIs were the first in a Texas uniform for Becerra, who transferred to Texas from Stanford this offseason, and Pack, who is a freshman out of California.
Texas will make a pitching change during this break. Over his five-inning start, Ruger Riojas allowed three hits and one walk while striking out nine batters. The only Aggie to reach base against Riojas between the second and fifth innings was hit by a pitch.

Hello, Aiden Robbins. A transfer from Seton Hall, Robbins introduced himself to Texas fans with a 428-foot blast over the fence in left field that drove in two runs. That was the first homer of the season for Texas, and it was hit by a player who had six homers over 204 at-bats with the Pirates last year.
Texas scored its season’s first run earlier in the third inning when Adrian Rodriguez drove in Anthony Pack Jr. with a single. That was Rodriguez’s second hit of the game.

Using a four-pitch walk to its leadoff hitter and two singles, UC Davis got its first three batters aboard against UT starter Ruger Riojas. Texas was able to limit the Aggies to just a run-scoring groundout, and Riojas later escaped a bases-loaded jam with back-to-back strikeouts.
