AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas baseball team opened up the regular season and conference play with a 12-2, mercy-rule victory over the University of Dallas. Starting pitcher Rowdy Hoadley struck out eight batters, while four Tornaods went yard at Gardner-Boggs Field on Friday.
Dallas struck first with a two-run homer in the top of the third. Kalen Clark answered in the bottom of the frame with a solo shot to make it a 2-1 game.
The Tornados’ offense came alive in the sixth when Landon Hyle tied the game scored from first on a hit-and-run down the left field line from Logan Smith. CTX would then take their first lead of the game with a two-run home run by Bo Dinscore. Concordia ended the frame by pushing the  lead to 5-2 thanks to a RBI-single by Clark that scored Ty Klaus-Kismore.
Extending the lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh was Hunter Smith who hammered another solo homer to left. Adding insurance with two runners in scoring position later in the inning, Samuel Ortiz came through with a RBI-single. Extending the lead and scoring Ortiz for a 9-2 lead later in the frame was Klaus-Kismore.
Continuing to stay hot at the plate, Clark scored Klaus-Kismore with a RBI-double. Louis Alonzo would then walk-off the game with a mercy-rule, two-run shot.
Concordia Texas will look to claim the series in game two tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
