SAN MARCOS, Tex. — BYU softball fell to Texas State in six innings, 10-2 in its opening game of the State’s Up Invitational at Bobcat Softball Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The Cougars (1-6, 0-0 Big 12) took an early 1-0 lead, but an eight-run sixth by the Bobcats proved too much.
Player Highlights
Both teams had runners on through the first two innings, with BYU breaking through in the top of the third on a Lilly Owens walk, Hailey Shuler single up the middle and Ilove’a Brittingham double down the right field line for a 1-0 lead.
Texas State answered back in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game at one with a solo home run to left field.
The Bobcats took the lead in the fifth on a single up the middle and triple to right field, making it 2-1, TSU.
Bre Townsend helped the Cougars respond in the top of the sixth with a solo homer to center for a 2-2 game.
Texas State batted around the order in the home half of the sixth, blowing it open with eight runs on six hits to earn the 10-2 run-rule win.
