ORLANDO, Fla. – A husband and wife from Orlando were killed in a plane crash out of East Texas on Wednesday night, according to CBS affiliate KYTX-TV.
The outlet reported that the couple — identified as Ron and Barbara Timmermans — died in the plane crash in Murchison around 5:13 p.m. on Wednesday.
“The two owned and operated an aviation company, AileRon T LLC, based in Orlando, Fla.,” the report reads. “A dog was also onboard the plane and survived the crash.”
KYTX reports that, according to an early FAA investigation, the pair declared an emergency due to oil being in the windshield. The plane diverted, impacted power lines and ultimately crashed just short of the runway in the Brownsboro area.
Meanwhile, Spirit of Joy Church along Rouse Road issued a statement on the incident, stating that the couple was traveling out to visit family.
The National Transportation Safety Board said an investigator was slated to come look at the aircraft by the end of the week. The plane will then be taken to a secure facility for further evaluation.
