LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Showers and a few thunderstorms are likely in the KCBD/FOX34 viewing area this evening and tonight.
Rain and Thunderstorms Tonight
Rain has been moving into the area ahead of a low pressure area approaching from the west. Rain is likely this evening and tonight with a chance of thunderstorms mixed in. Most of the rain will be light with amounts less than a quarter inch.

Heavy rain, however, is possible with any thunderstorm activity. Amounts greater than an inch are possible, especially in areas where multiple thunderstorms pass over. In these cases, flooding of low areas is possible.

Gusty winds – up to around 70 mpg – and hail – up to around an inch or so – also are possible with the thunderstorms, with the greatest likelihood over the southeastern third or so of the viewing area.

Outside of strong gusts which may accompany thunderstorm activity, winds will remain light through the night.

The weather story will shift from rain to wind tomorrow. Rain may linger into mid-morning Saturday with a slight chance of a shower or thundershower through the afternoon.

Some sunshine will return, but northwest winds will pick up significantly in the afternoon. Sustained speeds of 15 to 25 mph are anticipated, but there may be gusts near 40 mph. This may make it feel much colder, so plan for that if you will be headed outside.

A dry much warmer pattern settles in for the week starting Sunday.
Sunday will be mostly sunny and pleasant with highs near 70 degrees and generally a light wind.
Washington’s Birthday, Monday, may look even better to you. A mix of sun and clouds with highs climbing into the upper 70s, even near 80.
